Trauma and Loss

In my experience, trauma and loss have been the most frequest reasons a person will begin psychotherapy.  However, all too often, the debilitating chains of traumatic experiences keep people from seeking support.  Work and personal relationships suffer, and physical ailments often abound.  Associated feelings of helplessness and paterns of self-handicapping are common.
What I have briefly described is treatable, but not through isolation.
Art making is an empowering form of communication which some find to be easier than verbal processing.  Because trauma and loss do not just live in our intellects,  but in our bodies, hearts, dare I say- "spirits", art-based psychotherapy can be extremely effective in overcoming the myriad of almost indescribable feelings associates with them.
If you are suffering, or if you are looking for help for someone you know, please contact me.

Bullying

In and out of the school system.
Bullying impacts victims, perpetrators, and entire communities.  It is a pattern of behavior which has been systemically ingrained within schools, within families, within communities.  If you are seeing signs of bullying in your child, please don't perpetuate the secret:
    * increased social anxiety
    * decreased school performance (socially and academically)
    * increased school absences
    * increased isolation after school
    * decreased interest in normally enjoyable acticvities
    * Sudden incidents of bedwetting
    * re-emergence of previously resolved speech impediments
These are just a few signs children sometimes exhibit in the context of feeling bullied.  Books and other resources exist to support families in overcoming bullying.
Art-based psychotherapy can be particularly effective in addressing issues that, to some children, are unspeakable.  This form of therapeutic intervention can clarify a child's strengths and help them to solidify a sense of self outside of the bullying relationship.

Social Anxiety

You know it when you feel it.  It may keep you from performing your best at work or from having the meaningful relationships you see others having around you.
Art-based psychotherapy can help you explore the many levels of stress social anxiety causes, and can set meaningful, achieveable goals for their resolution.

Stagnation

Sometimes, you can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but there is a sense of stagnation in one or all areas of your life.  Let creative expression crack the ice that forms around personal stagnation, get the energy flowing again, clear your head.

Short-Term Psychotherapy

Often, people are interested in seeking psychotherapy, but hesitant to commit to years of work for a problem they see as relatively temporary.  I offer short-term (6-12 month), goal oriented, art-based psychotherapy, though certain conditions apply.  If you are interested, please contact me for details.
